SAVE - the immersive VR training simulator

SAVE is Phenomatic's Virtual Reality training simulator, which has specifically been developed for training operators in the oil and gas industry.  The hardware comprises a head mounted display, 3D joystick, tracking system and platform. This is powered by our proprietary Virtual Reality software which runs on a supplied dedicated PC, together with instructor interface and monitor. A complete package.

The simulator comes pre-loaded with a generic 'mini-refinery', containing a range of plant and equipment found in a typical oil refinery.

The trainee stands on top of the platform, wearing the head-mounted display. He is immersed both visually and accoustically in the virtual refinery. Using the 3D joystick, he is able to move about freely through the refinery, pick-up objects, and operate virtual equipment.

The SAVE simulator is adaptable and expandable. Phenomatics can customise SAVE to reflect clients particular training emphasis, and add or delete apparatus at any time both before or after delivery.

  Training Modules

SAVE includes 20  training modules, devised by industry experts. These allow the trainee to perfect a series of pre-determined training tasks. Examples of training modules are

  • personal safety equipment - recognition and use
  • reciprocating gas compressor - start-up and shut-down
  • heat exchanger - start-up and shut-down
  • process pump - start-up following repair
  • plant start-up - full procedures
  • + 15 other modules

Training with or without an instructor present

Trainees may work alone with the training modules. Alternatively, training may be conducted in the prescence of a training instructor, who is able to monitor the trainees actions in the virtual refinery on a computer screen, and direct the training session as he sees fit. For example, by triggering unexpected events.

Client-specific development service

Phenomatics is able to work closely with clients to develop their own company-specific needs. Clients in the oil and gas and chemical industries benefit from the large library of virtual components which Phenomatics has developed, which form the basis of a client-specific simulator solution, be it a 'generic' training environment or a direct copy of a clients manufacturing facility.

And clients from other industries can discuss with us in confidence about their ideas and aspirations for training in Virtual Reality. If for whatever reason we are unable to assist, we probably know who can, and would be happy to advise.
